Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement marking Memorial Day:

“This weekend our great nation will celebrate Memorial Day.  This day is set aside each year to honor those brave men and women who gave the last full measure of devotion to our great nation by making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom.  Thomas Campbell once said, ‘The patriot’s blood is the seed of freedom’s tree.’  Throughout the history of our great nation, patriots have stepped forward in defense of freedom and their courage and their brave sacrifice has truly helped to grow our nation upon the bedrock of freedom of liberty.  This weekend every American should take a moment in their own way to reflect on the actions of those brave Americans and to give thanks that such patriots have continually risen from the ranks of our nation when liberty has been threatened.  While Memorial Day is specifically reserved to honor the fallen, we also honor those who have served and continue to serve bravely in defense of freedom.  This weekend we honor true American heroes; our true American patriots.  We honor those who through their sacrifice have helped to make America the most free and greatest nation the world has ever known.

“I wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day.  I hope that you and your family have the opportunity to enjoy Pure Michigan whether on our lakes and rivers, the golf course, our parks, a community parade, or simply barbequing with family in your own back yard.  There simply is no better way to honor those whose bravery preserved our liberty than by joyfully taking advantage of the blessings of that liberty.  So let us all say a prayer of thanksgiving for those who have given all so that we can live free.  Happy Memorial Day.”
