Rep. Miller Statement on the British Parliament’s Vote on Military Involvement in the Syrian Civil War

Aug 29, 2013

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today issued the following statement regarding the ongoing conflict in Syria.

“The British Parliament today had a full debate and vote on whether or not to involve their armed forces in the Syrian civil war and they voted no.  For America to move forward on military involvement in that conflict without a debate or vote in Congress and without the support of our closest ally in the world is a terrible idea.

"If President Obama wants to move forward with an attack he must provide clear and compelling evidence as to how it is vital to our national interests and win the support of the representatives of the American people in Congress.  Going it alone, without the backing of Congress and our strongest ally, is simply unacceptable.  I once again urge the President to not rush forward and to follow the law and our Constitution.”
