Rep. Miller to Join Effort to Keep Government Open, Delay and Defund ObamaCare

Sep 13, 2013

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today voiced support for and will join on as a cosponsor of the Stability, Security and Fairness Resolution (H.J.Res. 62), a plan to fund the government for Fiscal Year 2014 while fully delaying and defunding ObamaCare until 2015.  Rep. Miller said:

“Today I informed my colleague Rep. Tom Graves (GA-14) that I will join him when the House reconvenes on Monday as a cosponsor of H.J. Res. 62, the Stability, Security and Fairness Resolution, a measure that will provide for the funding of the government for the entire 2014 fiscal year at the level mandated by the sequester, prioritizes funding for national security and veterans and, most importantly, provides fairness for every American by defunding and delaying ObamaCare until 2015.

“Earlier this year, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), one of the primary architects of ObamaCare, called the implementation of the health care law a ‘train wreck.’  Since that time the Obama Administration has exempted big businesses from ObamaCare mandates, but the American people will still be forced to comply with the law’s many mandates which threaten the care they currently have.  Even staunch allies of President Obama are now seeing the damage this law could inflict.  Terence O’Sullivan, president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, recently said, ‘If the Affordable Care Act is not fixed and it destroys the health and welfare funds that we have fought for and stand for, then I believe it needs to be repealed.’  Three other labor groups including, the Teamsters Union, sent a letter to Democrat Congressional leaders stating, ‘On behalf of the millions of working men and women we represent and the families they support, we can no longer stand silent in the face of elements of the Affordable Care Act that will destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans.’

“Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once said, ‘We have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it.’  The American people have now found out what’s in ObamaCare and they increasingly don’t like it.  We have a responsibility to delay this train wreck from hitting the American people so that we can continue to work toward a full repeal and put in place a new plan that will actually lower costs and increase access to care for every American.

“In the meantime we also have a responsibility to fund the rest of the government with a primary focus on national security, homeland security and veterans while at the same time being true to spending controls that have already been agreed to by Congress in a bipartisan fashion.  This bill does all of that and I am proud to be a cosponsor of the legislation.  As the current fiscal year is quickly coming to a close, it is my hope that this bill will be taken up quickly and sent to the U.S. Senate for consideration.  At that point the American people have a responsibility to stand up and tell their Senators that while they want the government to continue to function, they don’t want to be forced into a health care system that they don’t want.  Now is the time for action.”
