House passed resolution calling on Secretary of Defense to permit the performance of religious services

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement regarding the House-passed resolution, H.Con.Res.58, expressing the need for the continued availability of religious services to members of the Armed Forces and their families during the government shutdown.  Miller said:

“While we wait for the Senate and the White House to join us in a conference to work out our differences and put forward a bipartisan compromise to get our federal government back open – there is no reason why religious services for members of the Armed Forces and their families should be stopped.  In no situation or circumstance should our military chaplains be blocked from providing spiritual support to our brave men and women.  We call on Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to use his authority and permit the performance of religious services for our military, regardless of a government shutdown.”
