Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today released the following statement honoring Veterans Day:
“Freedom is not free and throughout the history of our great nation brave men and women have always stepped forward to secure and defend that freedom which we all hold dear. On this Veterans Day, another generation of brave Americans is standing at posts on battlefields across the world in opposition to the enemies of freedom and in defense of liberty.
“We once again honor all who have worn the uniform so that every American and countless others across the world can live free. We honor our friends, neighbors and loved ones who fought in World War II and saved the world from fascist tyranny; those who stood firm during the Cold War against the Soviet threat; those who fought in Korea against communist aggression; those who fought in Vietnam in defense of freedom and whose sacrifice has never properly been recognized; those who fought in the Persian Gulf against the aggression of Saddam Hussein and liberated the people of Kuwait; those who fought again in Iraq and have brought freedom and democracy to the Iraqi people; those who have fought in Afghanistan and other places in the Global War on Terror and have made our nation more secure.
“The thanks and gratitude of every citizen of this great nation can never be fully expressed. President John F. Kennedy once said on Veterans Day, ‘As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.’ So let us not only provide words of thanks to our Veterans on this day, but let us all through our actions always continue to honor and support those who have served and sacrificed so much for all of us.”
