Rep. Miller's Statement on DHS's Maritime Operations Coordination Plan

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, today made the following comments regarding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announcing the Maritime Operations Coordination (MOC) plan to enhance the DHS’s coordination capabilities among the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when responding to threats against the U.S. and its interests.

“My subcommittee has been focused on securing our nation’s borders, both at and between the ports of entry. This includes our nation’s liquid border,” Miller said. “The security of our ports and waterways is vital and I applaud DHS on their announcement of the Maritime Operations Coordination plan. The USCG’s role in securing the maritime environment is critical, and this new plan to combine efforts with CBP and ICE will ensure that our nation’s coast is secure, while at the same time providing for the facilitation of commerce. On Tuesday, July 12th, I will hold a Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee hearing focusing on the relationship between all levels of law enforcement in the maritime environment in the post-9/11 era, and I look forward to hearing from the witnesses from CBP and the USCG regarding the MOC plan.”
