Rep. Miller: Enbridge Completes Work; Restarts Pipeline 6B

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following comments regarding Enbridge’s completion of the replacement pipeline in Line 6B under the St. Clair River. Miller said:

“I appreciate the quick, professional response of Enbridge to complete this project. My principal advocacy since I became an elected official is the preservation of our magnificent Great Lakes – which make up 20 percent of the fresh water supply for the entire planet. Every day, we rely on the lakes and rivers for their fresh water drinking supplies, as well as the ability of commercial vessels to transit raw materials. There is zero room for error in these environmentally sensitive areas and I am glad that the pipeline replacement steps were taken to address this dent quickly. We can all rest assured that this new pipeline will safely carry the energy we need, while ensuring no accidental spills into our water supply.”

Note: Congresswoman Miller, a member of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, called attention to the dent in the pipeline that runs under the St. Clair River during a hearing on September 15, 2010 which investigated the July 25th Enbridge 6B pipeline rupture in Marshall, MI. The Enbridge Line 6B pipeline passes through much of Southeast Michigan before passing under the St. Clair River and terminating in Sarnia, Ontario. Enbridge replaced 3,450 feet of the 30-inch Line 6B pipeline under the St. Clair River.
