Advisory: Securing the Nation's Ports and Maritime Border - A Review of the Coast Guard Post 9/11 Homeland Security

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, will hold a hearing on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011, at 10:00am entitled, “Securing the Nation’s Ports and Maritime Border – A Review of the Coast Guard Post 9/11 Homeland Security Missions.”
Chairman Miller said: “Our hearing on June 14th will focus on the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) role in securing our nation’s sea ports and maritime borders. Following September 11th, 2001, the USCG has been given immense responsibilities for security in the maritime environment, and the amount of time spent by the USCG on Ports and Waterways Coastal Security has increased tenfold. The men and women of the USCG must be prepared to confront a wide variety of challenges, ranging from violent terrorists and criminals to raging seas and environmental calamities, and Congress’ job is to ensure they have the resources they need to perform those missions. Admiral Papp will testify before the subcommittee on the effects these increased operations have had on the brave men and women of the USCG and lay out his vision for the role of the USCG in the post-9/11 era.”

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th at 10:00am in 311 Cannon. Live Web cast will begin at the start of the hearing.
