Rep. Miller: CBP Committed to Completion of Blue Water Bridge Plaza & Will Move on Interim Traffic Flow Project

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border & Maritime Security, today received a letter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) outlining their commitment to the completion of the Blue Water Bridge Plaza project, as well as their decision to move forward with a proposed staggered booth project with funding offered by the Blue Water Bridge Port Authority. In April after testifying before Miller’s subcommittee, Stan Korosec, Vice President, Operations, Blue Water Bridge Canada, outlined the Blue Water Bridge Authorities’ proposal to maximize capacity at the bridge using staggered and stacked booths as an interim solution until the Blue Water Bridge Plaza can be constructed.

“Last month I held a hearing in the Border and Maritime Subcommittee that brought forward this idea to help move traffic more quickly and ease congestion on the Blue Water Bridge. I immediately wrote a letter to CBP urging them to expedite this plan. I am very pleased that CBP has responded so quickly and affirmatively that construction will move forward immediately to make it happen. I am also pleased that in their response letter to me that CBP reiterated their commitment to move forward in an expeditious fashion on the long overdue expansion of the Blue Water Bridge Plaza Project. I remain committed to the completion of the Blue Water Bridge Plaza which is critical for our security, as well as transiting people and commerce throughout the region and our nation and I will continue to provide the vigorous oversight necessary to make certain this vital project moves forward. The citizens of Port Huron and the Blue Water area have spent over 10 years working with all of the stakeholders and they deserve action. I intend to make certain that they get it.”
