WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today released the following statement regarding the House Republicans’ plan to cut $100 billion in federal spending for fiscal year 2011:
“Last year, the Republican Party made a Pledge to the American people that we would heed their call to reduce out-of-control government spending. Next week we will fulfill that pledge when we cut more than $100 billion in federal spending for this fiscal year. That is $100 billion less added to our deficit; $100 billion less added to our national debt; or $100 billion less borrowed from China.
“Along the way there will be many painful cuts, but today the federal government actually borrows 42 cents for every dollar we spend, and this out-of-control deficit spending limits opportunities for new job creation which must be our top priority. In order to get our economy moving again so that we can create the jobs we need, we must bring fiscal responsibility back to Washington. This is another important step in that process and the Republican majority in the House will continue along this fiscally prudent path so that we can get our economy moving again and create new jobs.”
