Miller Statement on the Shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement on the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to my colleague, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, members of her staff and her constituents who were the victims of a shooting today in Tucson, Arizona. I have worked with Gabrielle Giffords on issues related to my service on the House Homeland Security Committee, including border related issues. We also have talked frequently about our support of the space program, as my father was an aeronautical engineer who worked on the program at the beginning and her husband who now serves as an astronaut.

“Our offices are very close together which has given me an opportunity to often walk to votes with her. Gabrielle Giffords is a beautiful person both inside and out and I consider her a friend. I am deeply saddened by this heinous crime. This senseless violence has absolutely no place in our free society.”
