Miller: DHS Grants Awarded to Washington Township & Delaware Township Fire Departments

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today praised the awarding of U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters FY 2010 Grant (AFG) awards to Washington Township Fire Department ($103,117 grant) and to Delaware Township Fire Department ($8,550 grant).

“These grants will be lifesaving resources for both Washington Township and Delaware Township’s Fire Departments and enables them to purchase new equipment for fire and rescue services,” Miller said. “DHS’ continues to invest in our community fire departments which help to ensure that each first responder has the tools needed to best meet their mission.”

Specifically, Washington Township Fire Department in Macomb County will use this grant at their Fire Station #2 for new fire suppression equipment, as well as a fire alarm and fire exhaust system. Delaware Township Fire Department in Sanilac County will use this grant to purchase a new Thermal Imaging Camera.

*Please Note: This DHS grant is not a federally requested project (earmark) or a stimulus requested project. The DHS grant is part of the 2010 AFG award program and has been in operation since the year following September 11, 2001. The AFG award program is intended to support first responder training, supply adequate firefighting/EMS equipment, including rescue vehicles and protective gear, as well as provide for the wellness and fitness of firefighters.
