Miller Statement on Credible Terrorist Threat

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10), a member of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) investigation of suspicious packages found on cargo planes bound for the United States. Congresswoman Miller said the following:

“Today, we are at a heightened alert due to numerous reports of suspicious packages originating from Yemen found aboard cargo planes. Reports are coming out that two of these suspicious packages found in the United Kingdom and Dubai and bound for the U.S. did contain explosive material. DHS, FBI and local law enforcement are responding and an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the threat.

“The professionals in our intelligence agencies and law enforcement who uncovered this attempt worked diligently to make certain this terror act did not succeed. We are grateful for their quick actions and coordination with our partners and allies overseas. We are still engage in the war on terror and must remain vigilant. This attempt is another reminder that our enemies are determined to probe weaknesses within our security and conduct attacks on our nation.”
