Michigan Boating Industries Association Awards Congresswoman Miller with the 2010 Mayor's Cup

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following comments upon receiving the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA) 2010 Mayor's Cup Award for her career in public service and advocacy on behalf of Michigan’s water resources, fisheries and boating industry. The MBIA Mayor's Cup is presented each year to the Michigan city, legislator, individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to the recreational boating industry. In 1998, then Secretary of State, Miller received the Mayor’s Cup making this the second time she has received this prestigious award.

“Receiving the MBIA’s Mayor’s Cup award is an incredible honor recognizing the work I have done advocating on behalf of Michigan,” Miller said. “I have made protecting Michigan’s waters, our world-renowned recreational boating industry and the health of the marine industry a lifelong priority. I want to thank the MBIA Board, staff and members for this recognition and will continue to advocate for the protection of our waters and marine industry.”

“Congresswoman Miller has consistently supported boating related events and programs such as the Detroit Boat Show and Michigan’s Clean Marina program, and has given a voice to many important marine industry issues such as Asian Carp, water access, and water quality which benefits the entire state of Michigan,” said MBIA President Van Snider. “The MBIA Board, staff and members wish to recognize her and thank her for her dedication and contributions to our industry.”

The MBIA is a Livonia, MI based, state-wide trade association representing nearly 400 retail boating businesses and is dedicated to the advancement, protection and promotion of boating across Michigan.
