Congress Needs to Create Jobs, Cut Spending & Stop the Tax Hike
Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today released the following statement in support of House Republican Leader John Boehner’s (R-OH) call for bi-partisan cooperation to renew tax cuts and reduce government spending:
“Our economy continues to struggle largely due to uncertainty that exists for small business job creators on pending tax hikes. All of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts are set to expire at the end of this year and job creators are wary of making new investments that would create needed jobs because they are unsure what tax rates will be moving forward. If we hope to emerge from this difficult economy and want to promote new job creation we must extend these tax cuts immediately.
“I strongly support the plan put forward today by House Republican Leader John Boehner. That plan calls for the immediate two year extension for current tax rates to provide certainty to job creators and taxpayers that will help spur investment and new job creation. It also calls for scaling back federal spending to 2008 levels. This would bring federal spending down to the levels before the Wall Street Bailout and failed economic stimulus plan and would be a great start at brining fiscal sanity back to Washington.
“It is my hope that our Democrat colleagues will join this call for bi-partisan cooperation to take real steps that can help get our economy moving again. We don’t need another big government stimulus plan like the one that has already failed to create the promised jobs. What we need is a big dose of fiscal discipline and economic certainty. It is time to get to work.”
