Miller Statement on the Ninth Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks

Harrison Township, MI– U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today released the following statement in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the terror attacks on September 11, 2001:

“Nine years ago enemies of freedom attacked and murdered 3,000 innocent Americans as they were simply going about their daily lives. They took this heinous act because they believed that America was weak in character and could force our nation to step back from liberty and freedom. They were wrong on both counts.

“On that horrible day we saw many examples of the strength of America’s character. We will never forget the bravery of the fire fighters and police officers who ran into burning buildings to save people they did not know with the full knowledge that by doing so they put their own lives at great risk. We saw that strength in the passengers aboard United Flight 93 who knowing the fate that awaited them struck America’s first blow in this new war by giving their lives to stop the terrorists from reaching their target. We saw it in every American as we united in our love of our great nation, of each other and of our way of life.

“Every American should take a moment to reflect upon and remember those who lost their lives in this senseless act. We all should also say a prayer of thanksgiving for those who gave their lives on that day in the attempt to save others and for those who since that day have fought and sacrificed on battlefields across the globe against the enemies of liberty.

“Our great nation was born 234 years ago in a revolution against tyranny. It has stood since that time as a beacon of hope for countless who have come here with a yearning to be free. We have sent our sons and daughters to defeat fascism, communism and to protect our freedom and spread it to hundreds of millions across the world. Today we continue that fight against yet another enemy of freedom, and once again freedom will prevail. The world should know that America will never surrender in the fight for liberty and will remain eternally vigilant to the simple statement in our Pledge – “One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

“God bless America.”
