Miller: $68 Million Awarded to U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command of Warren, MI

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today applauded the designation of a $68 million award for Abrams Tank Systems Technical Support (STS) to the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command of Warren, MI. This award comes from General Dynamics Land Systems, and will fund engineering studies on Abrams main battle tanks to identify improvements and replace obsolete parts to maintain the tanks at high operational readiness rates.

“In order to ensure the security of our nation, it is vital that our brave troops in the field are the best trained, the best equipped and most lethal fighting force in the world. This funding will ensure that one of the most critical weapons used by our military is maintained at the appropriate level to achieve those goals,” Miller said. “The engineering on this Abrams main battle tank is done right here in Michigan because we are home to some of the greatest innovators in the world. The work they do is vitally important to keeping our men and women who are in theater safe, and the employees who will do this important work here in Macomb County should be proud of what they do to support our troops and help to defend our freedom.”

The award will support the work performed by existing General Dynamics Land Systems personnel in Sterling Heights, MI and is expected to be completed by Dec. 19, 2011. The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, headquartered in Warren, MI, in partnership with the Army's Program Executive Offices, is one of the Army's largest weapon systems research, development, and sustainment organizations.
