WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today praised the fast action of three U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit aviators who were able to safely exit after their helicopter crashed yesterday during a nighttime training session with Station Port Huron in southern Lake Huron.
“I am very thankful everyone is safe and no injuries were incurred,” said Miller. “The U.S. Coast Guard is always training to keep their rescue skills at the highest level possible. Their readiness training exercises ensure that they are always prepared to react to any situation they may face, especially the unexpected situations. Every man and woman of the Coast Guard deserves our support and thanks for the constant dedication and assistance they provide us in our time of need.”
All three U.S. Coast Guardsmen were able to safely exit the helicopter before it sank, and were recovered by the crew of a 41-foot utility boat based out of U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Huron. The cause of the crash is under investigation and the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit has scheduled salvage operations to begin Wednesday at approximately 12 p.m.
