Miller Statement on Ford, General Motors and Chrysler Financial Status

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today commended Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler’s announcements on their financial status. Ford Motor Company has posted a $2.1 billion first quarter profit; General Motors has prepaid their government loan of $6.7 billion; and Chrysler posted a $143 million first quarter profit.

“For the last few years, we in this region have been living through the difficult restructuring of the domestic auto industry,” said Miller. “Now we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Earlier Chrysler announced that they posted a $143 million first quarter profit. General Motors announced they had paid back loans from the federal government five years ahead of schedule and with interest. And today, Ford announced that they posted a $2.1 billion first quarter profit and intends to ramp up production for popular models and perhaps even add new jobs. It is now clear the big three are coming back strong based upon sacrifices of hourly workers, salaried workers and management and, most importantly, the introduction of great new products that are being embraced by consumers. We should all be happy that this vital industry is coming back and everyone in our community should take pride in their resurgence.”
