Miller: Elk Township Fire Rescue to Receive DHS Grants

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $45,660 to Elk Township Fire Rescue. This grant is part of the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and is intended to support first responder training, supply adequate firefighting/EMS equipment, including rescue vehicles and protective gear, as well as provide for the wellness and fitness of firefighters.

“This AFG grant provides critical tools for the firefighters who are the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency. This financial support going to these brave men and women who serve will aid in the security of the citizens and the community,” said Miller. “The equipment and training which this grant will provide will drastically increase firefighter safety, reduce potential hazards and prevent major agriculture operations in the county from experiencing considerable damage.”

Elk Township Fire Rescue will use their grant towards equipment and training, such as new turnout gear, Firefighter I and II training, Rapid Intervention Team training and a washing machine.
