WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following comments in response to how the Democrats’ health care bill will vastly expand the responsibilities of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when dealing with our nation’s taxpayers:
“On Sunday, the House of Representatives is slated to vote on the health care reform bill. And I think that folks should know that this bill will actually expand the responsibilities of the IRS – really expand them – in order to enforce these government mandates, which could mean thousands of newly hired IRS agents.
“They will verify that you have acceptable, government approved health care as the bill mandates. They will have the authority to fine you up to $2,250 or 2% of your income, whichever is greater, if you do not. I think instead, Congress should be working to lower health care costs and to expand the availability of health care coverage for everyone.”
