Miller Statement on Chrysler Group LLC to Buy Sterling Heights Assembly Plant

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today commended Chrysler Group’s decision to purchase the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP). The SHAP is the largest employer in Sterling Heights, supporting 1,200 jobs at the plant and providing $2.6 million in tax revenue to Sterling Heights. Congresswoman Candice Miller released the following statement:

“In December, Mr. Marchionne told me that SHAP would be open thru 2010 and into 2011, and now with this news that Chrysler is purchasing the plant, we all are very hopeful about SHAP's future. This plant, and the men and women who work there, are up for any challenge and they will prove that they can help Chrysler build some of the best automobiles the world has ever seen.

“I congratulate the City, the City Council and the Automotive Task Force that was formed by the City of Sterling Heights, which I was proud to be a part of, and we look forward to continuing to work to make Chrysler free of government intervention and on the road to economic prosperity.”
