REP MILLER MEMORIAL DAY STATEMENT

MACOMB COUNTY – U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement in recognition of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend:

“On Monday, May 25th our nation will observe Memorial Day.  For many Memorial Day means gathering with family and friends for picnics or barbeques and serves as the beginning of the summer outdoor season.  While these are wonderful opportunities to share precious time with our loved ones, we must never lose focus of the true reason for Memorial Day: to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom for this great nation.

“It is appropriate and vital that we, the American people, take time on this solemn day to understand that freedom is not free.  To understand we should never take our freedom for granted.  And to say a prayer of thanks to the countless who have fallen so that we can continue to enjoy the blessing of liberty for which brave Americans have fought since our revolution.

“May God bless those who have given the last full measure of devotion to this great nation.  And may God also bless those who continue serve in uniform across the globe to keep our nation free.

“Happy Memorial Day.”
